We believe that domestic violence is a problem that affects entire communities. In order to end domestic violence, and to ensure that in the meantime, survivors are given all the support they need, Between Friends works to educate and inform people about the persistence and severity of domestic violence.

The REACH program is one key part of this work, focusing on teaching both young people and the adults in their lives about teen dating violence and how to prevent it.

Between Friends is a provider of the 40-Hour Domestic Violence training that is required to become an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional. This training provides participants with insight into the DV movement’s philosophical and political framework, and gives a solid foundation for supporting folks who experience violence. Future counselors, clinicians, social workers, and others have learned about Orders of Protection, crisis intervention, building an anti-oppression framework, and much more. 

We partner with hospitals and other medical providers to prepare thousands of nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to safely and sensitively respond to the needs of domestic violence survivors. In addition, we work with a diverse array of community organizations, youth coalitions, social service agencies, elected representatives, legal officials, educators, clergy groups, local businesses, and other community members to raise awareness and build a strong constituency for ending the cycle of domestic violence.
