Light Up The Cityon September 1

For over 20 years, Between Friends has launched Domestic Violence Awareness Month with our Light Up the Lakefront event on October 1. This year, due to public health concerns, we took this event online — and to the whole of Chicago. Light Up The City encouraged Chicagoans to participate, from their own homes, in a tribute to the millions of people affected by domestic violence every year.

You can now watch the video of our Light Up The City program here!

This video featured stories from DV survivors and messages from our staff. We also led a social media “power hour” on Twitter using the event hashtag #LightUpTheCity20. We shared resources and information about actions people can take offline and online to play a part in this vigil and in the broader struggle to end domestic violence.

You can still download and print a Light Up The City poster here. Put it in your window to show  your support for survivors of domestic violence and your solidarity with all those who have been affected by domestic violence throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month! If you’re on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, we encourage you to take a photo of the poster in your window and share it while tagging Between Friends and #LightUpTheCity20.
