February of each year marks Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and every year the REACH team at Between Friends runs a campaign called #AdultsListenUp!
This year, we collaborated with Notes for Notes: Chicago. Notes for Notes is a non-profit organization that designs, equips, and staffs after-school recording studios inside Boys & Girls Clubs, offering young people the opportunity to explore, create, and record music for free.
In three after-school sessions, the students of Notes for Notes created a body of work for the 2020 #AdultsListenUp! Campaign. Students shared their thoughts on teen dating violence and adults’ role in addressing this issue — you can see what they had to say in this video. They also created the song “Listen Up” by D.H. Pro and Jabbar , produced by TJ.
This collaboration combines the prevention education of Between Friends with the musical talents of Notes for Notes: Chicago, in a space where creativity and activism collided. Watch the video and listen to the song below!
