Student musician at Notes for Notes

Music Is the Message With Notes for Notes!

February of each year marks Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and every year the REACH team at Between Friends runs a campaign called #AdultsListenUp!

This year, we collaborated with Notes for Notes: Chicago. Notes for Notes is a non-profit organization that designs, equips, and staffs after-school recording studios inside Boys & Girls Clubs, offering young people the opportunity to explore, create, and record music for free.

In three after-school sessions, the students of Notes for Notes created a body of work for the 2020 #AdultsListenUp! Campaign. Students shared their thoughts on teen dating violence and adults’ role in addressing this issue — you can see what they had to say in this video. They also created the song Listen Up by D.H. Pro and Jabbar , produced by TJ.

This collaboration combines the prevention education of Between Friends with the musical talents of Notes for Notes: Chicago, in a space where creativity and activism collided. Watch the video and listen to the song below!
