Graphic to promote Light UP the Lakefront 2019

As we’ve done for more than 20 years, Between Friends will launch Domestic Violence Awareness Month with our Light Up the Lakefront event. Thousands of candles will be lit in a striking visual tribute to the nearly 12 million adults and over 19 million children affected by domestic violence.

Join us at North Avenue Beach to show your support, hear stories from domestic violence survivors, and honor those we have lost. ASL and Spanish interpretation will be provided. Please spread the word about the event: If you’re on Facebook, you can find the event page here.

We will need volunteers to arrive at 5pm on the day and help make this year’s event a success by setting up, lighting, and cleaning up the candles. To RSVP as a volunteer, please click here and complete the form.

In case of bad weather, drop in between 6pm-7:30pm at Lincoln Park Library. At the library we will share some refreshments, hear some survivors’ stories, and circulate some materials you can use to raise awareness in October. We will make an announcement on Facebook by noon on Oct. 1 if we decide the weather necessitates gathering at the library instead of the beach.
