A “Knight” Out at Medieval Times!

Our latest A Night Out event became A “Knight” Out with a visit to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament! This was a great follow-up to our previous A Night Out seeing the spectacular Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo.

Almost 50 former and current Between Friends clients (an even mixture of adults and children), together with Between Friends counseling staff, interns and volunteers, made the trip to the Medieval Times Castle in Schaumburg. Participants explored the Hall of Arms before enjoying a four-course meal and beverages served at their seats while watching the Medieval Times jousting show.

For most participants, this was their first time attending this type of event. Clients told us they enjoyed interacting with other domestic violence survivors, and felt that the event had a positive impact, helping them feel more optimistic about the future and alleviating feelings of loneliness and isolation. “We should have more nights out, it helps a lot with dealing with your pain,” said one attendee, while others added “I am glad I was able to get out, I’m pretty isolated” and “Everyone had so much fun at this event… Thank you for thinking of me.”

A Night Out is a program that enables families impacted by domestic violence to enjoy fun and safe group outings, accompanied by trained clinicians and volunteers. In the past we’ve taken people to comedy shows, catered meals, spa nights, and theater performances. Funding that Between Friends has received from NorthShore’s Community Investment Fund will be used to support more A Night Out events like this in the future!
