With the severe state and federal government funding cuts Between Friends has experienced this year, your donation is even more important. Jean’s story below illustrates how your contribution makes an enormous difference in the lives of individuals impacted by domestic violence.

Read one client's story of survival.

Scared, vulnerable and pregnant, Jean recently came to Between Friends. Her then boyfriend hit her in the head, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her in the stomach multiple times and all because she forgot to pick up milk at the grocery store. This is not the first time he has done this to her. The next day, she unable to keep down food or liquids so she went to the hospital. She was too afraid to tell anyone at the hospital about the abuse. Since she was staying overnight, her boyfriend sneaked into her hospital room by lying to the staff and saying he was her husband. After he apologized and said it wouldn’t happen again, he tried to convince her to leave the hospital with him. But she refused. She didn’t want to bring a baby into a home filled with violence and fear.

Now that Jean has come to Between Friends, she has found compassionate advocates to be by her side. With your generosity, we can help Jean create a plan to keep her and her baby safe. We can also stand with her in court as she asks for an Order of Protection and presses charges. Together we can help Jean and her baby look to a future full of hope and healing.

Your contribution will allow us to provide more counseling and court advocacy services to individuals like Jean so that families can heal from the trauma of abuse.
